INTERCONNECTED FUTURES

Approximately 200,000 people in 10 villages in Walikale and Lubutu territories, eastern Democratic Republic of Congo, benefited from our three-year Better Beginnings, Stronger Families project. In partnership with the communities there, we have implemented environmental education initiatives, improved healthcare, and supplied livestock to people living near wild great ape populations so that they would be less dependent on the forest and its resources.

What We Did

We built 7 schools

Constructed 6 new health centres

Established safe access to clean water for 11,000 people

To reduce dependence on forest resources, we distributed livestock to hundreds of households, helped establish tree nurseries, and supplied seedlings for kitchen gardens
