Planet Earth is warming. Climate change, large-scale, long-term shifts in the Earth’s weather patterns and average temperatures, can occur naturally. However, human activity has lead to accelerated change that is driving us all towards a climate crisis.
Global warming is the increase of average temperatures on Earth (about 1°C), caused by massive industrial activity since the 19th century. Modern human activities release greenhouse gases into the atmosphere, at the same time as human activity is reducing natural mechanisms to absorb the gases. These greenhouse gases absorb heat from the sun as it is reflected off the earth's surface and send it back again. This is causing a swift global warming on a scale never experienced before by our planet. Unbalancing the Earth's atmospheric and oceanic cycles on a global scale.
The choice is ours to solve this crisis. We can power our lives and economies without destroying our planet. But we have to act now.
